Privacy policy — Lumien

Lumien is a home screen replacement for Android. It has no account, no analytics, no advertising and no crash reporting. This policy describes the only two things worth describing: what stays on your phone, and the two requests that leave it.
What Lumien stores
Everything Lumien knows lives in its own private storage on your device:
- Your tile layout, sections, dock shortcuts and every setting, in the app's preferences.
- Copies of any pictures you pick for a photo tile, in the app's own files directory.
None of it is transmitted anywhere. There is no server behind Lumien.
If you have Android's backup turned on, your settings and layout are included in your device's cloud backup, and are handled under Google's backup terms rather than this policy. Your tile pictures are not backed up.
What leaves your device
Two requests, both only when a weather tile is on your start screen:
- Open Meteo (
api.open-meteo.com,geocoding-api.open-meteo.com) receives a pair of coordinates, or a place name when you search for one, and returns a forecast. No identifier is sent with it and Open Meteo requires no key. - ipapi.co receives your device's IP address, and only when Lumien has no location permission and you have not pinned a city. It returns an approximate location so the weather tile can show something rather than nothing. Grant the location permission or pin a city in settings and this request is never made.
Both are third parties with their own privacy policies.

Every one of these is optional. Lumien asks for a permission at the moment a tile needs it, and a tile you do not add never asks for anything.
Notification access, specifically
If you grant it, Lumien reads the notifications on your device to count them per app and to show a title and a line of text on a tile large enough to carry one. It is read in memory to draw the screen and is never stored, logged or sent anywhere. Revoking the access in Android settings stops it immediately.
Children
Lumien is not directed at children and collects nothing from anyone.
